Biography

Most Rev. Paul K. Bakyenga, was born at Bumbaire, Igara, Kitabi Parish, Archdiocese of Mbarara  on 30 June 1944. Ordained priest on 11 July 1971. Appointed Bishop Co-adjutor of Mbarara on 1 April 1989. Ordained Bishop on 24 June 1989 at Mbarara. On 23 November 1991 he Succeeded Rt. Rev. John Baptist Kakubi as the Bishop of Mbarara. On January 2nd, 1999 He was Appointed Archbishop of Mbarara (former Rwenzori Vicariate comprising the dioceses of Kabale, Kasese, Fort-Portal, Hoima and Mbarara). Archbishop Bakyenga retired on 25 April 2020. He passed away on July 18, 2023.

He is remembered fondly by the faithful for his dedication, pastoral care, and spiritual guidance. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire future generations of clergy and laity in the Archdiocese of Mbarara.
